STM Stellar 32-bit Automotive MCUs

Solving automotive requirements with high-performance processors

STM's new Stellar microcontroller (MCU) family promises maximum performance for the automotive industry. Together with ProMik, this creates solutions that meet today's requirements of software-based applications. The new MCU family is capable of performing real-time functions, aggregating and dispatching growing data streams, supporting power management and over-the-air software updates.

Advantages of ProMik at a glance

  • Realizing customized (automotive) projects
  • Solving OEM-specific cyber security requirements (HSM programming)
  • Fast support by experts around the clock
  • Homogenous toolchain (one-stop-supplier)
  • Integration of any component of various manufacturers
  • Support of newest technology (i.a. Stellar P and Stellar G)

Solving the most complex requirements with the PCM

A special feature of the Stellar MCUs is the integrated non-volatile Phase-Change memory (PCM). It offers fast read access times and single-bit alterability. The 28-nm FD-SOI technology enables over-the-air software updates without down time, even for full-sized memory updates. Furthermore, the technology offers improved control of system power consumption, providing environmental benefits as well as inherent radiation immunity. The Microcontrollers are adapted to the most stringent automotive requirements. epCM meets capacities for AEC-Q100 Grade 0 with a junction temperature of up to +165 degrees Celsius.

Deterministic high-performance MCUs

Stellar represent state-of-the-art processors with hardware support for visualization, quality-of-service settings, and the ability to firewall peripherals and perform link-level resource separation. Also supported are security functions over Ethernet or CAN using enhanced HSM and dedicated AES-light crypto acceleration.

The Stellar P  and Stellar G

The Stellar P and Stellar G integration MCUs are built upon the same platforms. They are based on six Cortex®-R52+ cores, 2 NEON extensions, 2 Cortex®-M4 multipurpose accelerators and 4 eDMA engines in lockstep configuration. In addition, the two sub-series have application-specific extensions.

The Stellar P is designed to meet powertrains, electrification solutions and domain-oriented systems. For this, it offers a new level of real-time performance, safety and determinism.

In comparison, the Stellar G has been optimized to solve the key challenges of body integration and zone-oriented vehicle architectures. It excels in ensuring performance, safety and energy efficiency together with connectivity and high safety.
